LeBron James eyeing grand slam of honours with an Olympics gold medal – NBA News
LeBron James is currently in London playing for U.S.A as they take on Argentina in the semi finals of the basketball tournament at the London Olympics. And a gold medal is what James is looking for, to cap off an amazing summer
for the superstar.
James was the regular season MVP this past season in the NBA. He then led his Miami Heat to an NBA championship, winning Finals MVP honours along the way.
The NBA championship was his first in his career, and cemented his place among basketball greats. Now, James has the opportunity to win gold at the Olympics, his second in his career, and cap off a year of victories and accolades.
Only Michael Jordan has done so before, winning all four feats in 1992.
“It’s crazy. A regular season MVP. A finals MVP. An NBA championship. The Olympics. All that stuff? It’s the best summer ever,” said team U.S.A point guard and close friend to James, Chris Paul.
James has been the best player on team USA at the Olympics as well, taking a more laid back role in the team as Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Durant get the job done with their scoring. He is happy to be the guy that helps everyone
play better, dishing out assists and making plays for his teammates. For him, it is all about winning and he wants to contribute to the success of the team.
However, when things get close, James has no problem in stepping back into his offensive minded zone. James scored several points in the later stage of a 99-94 victory by the U.S team over Lithuania. He then scored the first triple
double by any U.S player in the Olympics, when he scored 11 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists in the quarter final victory over Australia.
“It's great. I'm in a good spot in my career. I'm happy to be with a great team. I wouldn't change this for anything in the world. I feel good, just all-around with everything. On the court, off the court, my family, friendships.
I feel good,” said a comfortable James.
The man who is touted as the ‘King’ seems to be much more relaxed after winning his first NBA championship, something that had eluded him over the course of his career and has been the only thing that separates him from greatness.
His biggest criticism was the fact that he did not have a championship under his belt, and by achieving it, he silenced all his critics.
Now he seems focused on another crown, the gold medal at the Olympics. And he is in the right frame of mind as he attempts to get it, enjoying himself on and off the court.
