LeBron James finally delivers on promise by lifting the NBA Championship
When LeBron James made the ever so unpopular move to Miami Heat leaving behind the team which drafted him back in 2003, the Cleveland Cavaliers, it earned him much hatred from the media mongrels and most of the people in the basketball
world.
Two years have gone by since his arrival in Miami and finally LeBron has delivered on his promise to end his pursuit of the all elusive NBA Championship.
It took him a lot of hardships to get there and the jubilation was pretty obvious from the way he was celebrating on the side lines along with his team with still some time left on the clock on Thursday night against Oklahoma City
Thunder.
"It took me to go all the way to the top and then hit rock bottom to realize what I needed to do as a professional athlete and as a person," he said. "I was just happy I was able to get back to this position. I was happy I was
able to do it the right way, and do it for myself and not for anyone else."
After going through the experience of losing in the Finals last year to the Dallas Mavericks, the Heat returned back with more ambition, especially James, who had his eyes set on not coming second to anybody this year.
"The best thing that happened to me was losing the Finals, and me playing the way I played," James said, "because basically, I got back to the basics. I knew I was going to have to change as a basketball player and as a person
to get what I wanted. It just happened one year later."
As soon as the season started there was whole different vibe to LeBron`s game. He was more aggressive, more assertive and purposeful. He had formed himself into being a player with only one purpose and that was too give everything
to every game he plays.
Miami came into the playoffs with the second best record in the Eastern Conference after going through their fair share of struggles in the season. Coming into the playoffs, they blew past the New York Knicks in the first round
and after the Chicago Bulls got knocked out, they were tipped to be the favourites to at least win the East.
They were given a testing time by their second round opponents Indiana Pacers after Chris Bosh went down injured in the first game. However, Miami had James and he stepped up with all the intensity required, he got down do business
by being dominant in the post, a game style that has stuck with him. He then took over the Boston Celtics all by himself and took Miami to the NBA Finals for a second year running.
LeBron was all business in the NBA Finals as well and his attitude in pursuit for a Championship could be analysed from the way he stopped Mario Chalmers from celebrating too early in Game 5.
LeBron finished the game with triple double figures and went on to lift the Final MVP trophy as well but his best prize was getting the Championship which he had been seeking for so many years.
