LeBron James focused on winning NBA World Championship with Miami Heat, not MVP award – NBA Update
Miami Heat’s super star forward LeBron James was recently named the 2011-2012 NBA season’s Most Valuable Player. The forward was presented with the trophy by NBA Commissioner David Stern and appeared quite humbled with the honour.
James though has already made clear that there is no way he would settle for the individual accolades and said that these awards did not hold importance for him. He was only focused on winning the NBA World Championship with the Miami Heat.
“It didn't take another MVP trophy for me to want an NBA championship,” James said.
It was the third NBA MVP award for James and he became the part of a very select group of players with the win, those who have won 3 or more MVP awards in their career. Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain are among the legends in that special group.
One thing that they have and James still doesn’t though is the NBA World Championship, and the forward is determined to get off the mark in that department as well. In fact, LeBron would give up all the individual accolades if it meant he could get his hands
on the Larry O’Brien trophy.
“I'd give all three of them back for an NBA championship. I'm all about team. That's all I care about. That's all I know. This game is all about team.”
Dwyane Wade, LeBron’s super star teammate at the Miami Heat, already has an NBA World Championship ring. He won it back in 2006, when he was also named the NBA Finals MVP.
Wade revealed how James behaved within the Heat locker room after winning the MVP award. He observed that James was pleased about it, but shared his success with the rest of the team, thanking them for their help.
“He really didn't come in like, 'Yeah! I won,'" Dwyane Wade said. “He's not that kind of guy. He came in this morning and congratulated everybody on our team. Obviously, he knew this is something he couldn't do without everybody. He's humbled by it.”
LeBron and Wade are currently facing the Indiana Pacers in the second round of the playoffs. With their toughest potential opponents in the Eastern Conference, Chicago Bulls, already out, Miami are favourites to make it to the NBA Finals.
