LeBron James least worried about being the best player; Just wants to cross the final hurdle – NBA Update
One day before the epic NBA Finals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Miami Heat start, LeBron James has downplayed the talk of him being the best basketball player on the planet.
"I don't really get involved (in being considered) the best player in the game," he told reporters on Monday. "It doesn't matter to me, really. When I go out on the basketball court each and every night, I want to be the best player
in the game.
"I want to be the best player on that floor, and that's just how I approach the game.”
James has been long criticized for his choking acts deep in the playoffs, but this time around, the King has been on fire. His 45 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists Game 6 performance against the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference
Finals was one of the greatest seen in recent times and the intensity with which he has been playing this year’s playoffs is just incredible.
LeBron and his Heat will take on the red hot Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Finals, starting on Tuesday night. With Kevin Durant being on the other side, there have been a lot of comparisons drawn between the two superstars.
James beat KD in the race to MVP title this season, but the latter won his third consecutive scoring title.
Durant has been sensational in the run up to the Finals as well. He has taken his game to a next level not only in scoring but also is rebounding, and has by far been the best closer in NBA this post season. Such have his performances
that many people are already branding him as the best there is.
James however has his mind completely on the job at hand and is not worried about what happens after the series and as to who is best player. For now, he just wants to win the championship ring by being the player he is. The change
of guards, he said, is bound to happen sometime or the other;
“So I don't really care what people say at the end of this series if KD or LeBron is the best player in the league."
"It has to happen at some point anyways," said James, set to play in his third NBA championship series. "I won't be the best player in the league, KD will be. And then KD won't be the best player in the league at some point.
"It happens all the time. It doesn't really matter, so I don't care."
