LeBron James looking to improve his game; Not thinking about going abroad – NBA Update
LeBron James has revealed that he is more interested in working on his game in the gym rather than moving abroad to play more basketball during the NBA lockout. A number of NBA players have at least kept the overseas option open
but James said he isn’t likely to leave the United States.
With the negotiations for a new CBA at a standstill, the lockout seems set to drag out for quite a while. The NBA owners and David Stern are determined to get their way while the players don’t want to concede any further ground.
The National Basketball Players Association, which has been sued by the league in a federal court, has even encouraged players to look for opportunities overseas.
The executive director of the NBPA went as far as to say that he didn’t expect there to be an NBA season for 2011-2012. In such circumstances it is not strange to see that many players want to play abroad, simply to ensure that
they play and earn some money.
James isn’t exactly someone strapped for cash though. The Miami Heat forward makes a lot of money through his contract alone while many more millions flow in through his lucrative endorsement deals. The player has previously expressed
his optimism about a solution being reached soon for the CBA. He has now again stated that he would want to stay and work on his game here rather than look for work elsewhere,
“I’m just focused on getting better. Right now, I’m very optimistic that there will be an NBA season. As that time comes around, whether or whether not there is a season, no one knows at this point. Until the end, I’m preparing
forward and I’m looking forward to it.”
LeBron is considered by many to be the best basketball player in the world right now. It would therefore be a cause for concern for the rest of the NBA to hear that the player is working hard to improve further. One weakness in
his game pointed out towards the end of last season was a lack of offensive acumen in the post.
James recognized the weakness and, in the offseason, worked with basketball great Hakeem Olajuwon to readdress it. Olajuwon won two NBA World Championships with the Houston Rockets in his time. The legend is considered to be the
most skilful centre ever to play basketball and his post game was second to none.
James spoke about working with the great man and said he had definitely gotten better for the experience,
“I’m trying to improve every part of my game and that was an opportunity for me to improve my game. I’m very happy with it and can’t wait to put it in play.”
