LeBron James named Eastern Conference ‘Player of the Week’
Two-time reigning MVP and the spearhead of an explosive Miami Heat offence, LeBron James has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for his swash-buckling performances last week (Jan 3-9).
One of the most prolific and inspirational players in NBA, James prevailed over an elite group of nominees featuring stalwarts like Atlanta's Jamal Crawford and Joe Johnson, Boston's Ray Allen, Miami Heat team-mate Dwyane Wade, New York's Raymond Felton
and Orlando's new acquisition Hedo Turkoglu.
After a lacklustre opening to the season, LeBron James has finally found his groove at South Beach. James has been inspirational in turning Miami’s season on its head, and is one of the main reasons that the Heat are currently riding high on a red-hot nine
match winning streak, having triumphed in 21 of their last 22 encounters.
The phenomenal forward who has scorched the courts this season with a sizzling average of 25.3 points, 7.2 assists, 7.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game has been simply unstoppable this week. Marshalling the Heat to a perfect 4-0 outcome during the week,
King James has pounded a league-high 33.3 points wrapped with 9.5 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 2.25 steals. He has been shooting 53.3 percent (48-of-90) from the field, 46.15 percent (6-of-13) from beyond the arc and 81.5 percent (31-of-38) from the free throw
line.
The prolific sharp-shooter notched up three double-doubles in the week, and scored at least 25 points every time he stepped onto the court.
James started the week with 38-points, nine rebounds performance against the Charlotte Bobcats and also complemented it with five assists. He then ran riot on the Milwaukee Bucks in the next two games combining for 51 points, 16 rebounds and 14 assists.
In the last match against the Bucks on 7 Jan, James pitted a match-high six steals and also pulled off a landmark 500th block of his career.
LeBron though saved his best for the last game of the week against the Portland Trail Blazers. Pitched against the likes of LaMarcus Aldridge and Nicolas Batum, James torched the Rose Garden Arena, hammering a season-high 44 points, 13 rebounds and six assists
in a 107-100 overtime win over the Trail Blazers.
The award marks the 28th time James has been bestowed with this honour, and the second time in Miami colours after he also snatched it in the week spanning from Dec 20-26. The accolades for LeBron also come on the back of the player of the month
honour he recently won in December.
