LeBron James not eyeing an overseas contract – NBA Update
According to a report, around 80 percent of the players in the National Basketball Association (NBA) are in search of employment opportunities overseas. However, most players have not yet revealed their interest in playing abroad,
because there are only a limited number of opportunities available.
Where most players are either planning such moves or are already involved in the negotiations, there is one super star, who has not shown any interest in moving to a foreign league. He is the Miami Heat’s ace forward LeBron James.
According to unnamed agent, there have been many requests flowing in from players all across the NBA to engage the foreign leagues, but LeBron James is the most prominent amongst the select few, who has not shown any kind of interest
in the regard.
This decision by LeBron has been reported to stem from the fact that he is already making a huge sum of money under his current contract, which may be jeopardized in case he sustains a serious injury. It is a well known fact that
James makes more money endorsing products rather than playing basketball. His sponsors will not be willing to see him go to either Europe or Asia, as the market which exists there is quite different from the one in the United States.
Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade and Dwight Howard are among the many superstars, who have openly expressed keenness in taking their talents out of the United States. However, LeBron James has had a relatively quite summer according to
his standards and has not yet commented on this issue.
In case the lockout continues, and the NBA season gets cancelled, James is expected to stay in the States and use this opportunity as convalescence time. He has had eight gruelling seasons in the NBA where he has averaged 40 minutes
per game and this prolonged break might help him to give himself a long due rest.
Moreover, no European or Asian Club is expected to be able to meet the high financial demands of LeBron. He is currently the highest paid player and the most marketable player in NBA and a decision to move abroad will not only
fetch him less money but also a more injury prone environment. Not only that, but there are expected to be great security risks attached with LeBron’s move. This is in direct relation to his celebrity status, which will attract unwarranted attention towards
him.
James has maintained silence since the Miami Heat lost to the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals and has only been in the limelight because of his charity work. Despite of the fact, that the lockout took has taken effect and players
have started contemplating overseas options; James has continued to remain silent. However, it is only after players start exiting the NBA that a reasonable judgement can be made regarding those who were serious about making a move and those who were just
trying to seek attention.
