LeBron James not impressed by peevish Kendrick Perkins; Calls for the blame game to end – NBA Update
On January 30, Los Angeles Clippers star Blake Griffin posterized Oklahoma City Thunder’s centre Kendrick Perkins with what is being described as one of the greatest dunks of all times.
The jam happened a night after LeBron James, the Miami Heat superstar, had jumped over the head Chicago Bulls guard, John Lucas the third, to pull off a stunner. But after watching Griffin create magic, even he was left in awe;
"Dunk of the Year! @blakegriffin just dunked on Kendrick Perkins so hard!!! Wow! I guess I'm No. 2 now. Move over #6," LeBron wrote on twitter, seconds after the show stopper.
The dunk completely stunned Perkins and he soon made way onto the bench looking all lost. Now after nearly two weeks, the centre who has been out of sorts ever since he made a shift to Thunder last season, spoke out to Yahoo Sports and strangely he turned the guns towards James, who’s fault was to mention him in the tweet.
"You don't see Kobe [Bryant] tweeting," Perkins told Yahoo! Sports yesterday. "You don't see Michael Jordan tweeting. If you're an elite player, plays like that don't excite you.” Perkins went a step further and hit James where it hurts the most – his failure to win a championship.
"At the end of the day, the guys who are playing for the right reasons who are trying to win championships are not worrying about one play. They also are not tweeting about themselves talking about going down to No. 2," Perkins added, according to the report. "I just feel [James] is always looking for attention and he wants the world to like him."
The dig was more of a desperation move to turn away all the negative attention and put the blame on LeBron, a guy who everyone loves to hate after he ditched Cleveland Cavaliers last season.
But guess what, James has had enough and he is not going to buy anymore of that;
"Did I call him out? I mean, did you read the tweet? Did I call him out? I can see why he felt embarrassed. I don't think I was the only one to react to the unbelievable play by Blake and that's what it was all about," James said after the game against Orlando Magic on Wednesday;
"Now, if Kendrick Perkins dunked on somebody like that on the other end, I would have done the same thing. If Perkins dunked on Blake Griffin or DeAndre Jordan or whatever the case may be, it would be the same thing. That's just my love for the game and connecting with my fans."
He didn’t stop at that and expressed frustration at the negative publicity that is associated with him even when it is not his fault.
"I'm an easy target; if someone wants to get a point across -- just throw LeBron's name in there," James said. "You could be watching cartoons with your kids and you don't like it, you say, 'Blame it on LeBron.' If you go to the grocery store and they don't have the milk that you like, you just say, 'It's LeBron's fault.' "
