LeBron James or Derrick Rose – Who deserves MVP the most? NBA Special Report (part-1)
With about 12 games left in the season, I will certainly have my finger crossed over who will clinch the most valuable player (MVP) award this year, but I will certainly not put my money on it until we're mostly done with the season.
Too many things can change before then, and they usually do.
This year, however, NBA is faced with a very unusual proposition, one that has certainly put the NBA types in a fix. That piece of the puzzle is the fiery race between the two titans of the Eastern Conference; the two times reigning
MVP LeBron aka King James and the all conquering sharp-shooting prodigy Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls.
LeBron James has been ruling the NBA fraternity for some time now and by the end of January this year, the sensational small forward was all set to become only the third player in the history of the game, after Bill Russell and
Larry Bird, to win three MVP’s in a row. But, the sudden emergence of Derrick Rose has greatly complicated the equation. But, as far as I am concerned there is only one MVP and that is LeBron James.
There is no denying the fact that Derrick Rose is a beast on the field. The charisma and the finesse that the second year guard brings onto the court is certainly one that is not expected from a player of his age and experience.
Talent wise, Rose is a pure as they come. His hustle, leadership, flair and most importantly his ability to pull off difficult, sometimes impossible shots, in close quarters has certainly developed his reputation as a perpetual juggernaut.
Having said all that, although I would certainly have Rose in my fantasy team every day of the year, but he is a far shot from being a MVP material just yet. Let’s face it; the only reason why all of sudden Rose has taken over
NBA is that, finally, there has emerged a player in the Windy city that has vented the nostalgia of the once indomitable Chicago Bulls and their long lost glories. In fact, the thing that has made Rose’s drive even more pronounced is that he has led the Bulls
to a clean sweep over James’ Miami Heat this season.
James on the other hand is a perennial All-Star who has never looked back since he first graced the courts of NBA in 2003. Although anybody who follows the game know that there is no better specimen than James in the game at the
moment but let’s just make an argument for posterity’s sake.
LeBron James has been ruling the Player Efficiency rating this season, which by the way is the fourth straight season he has done so. He has the achieved the most points scored by any player in the league this season (51 points
against the Orlando Magic in early January). Not only is he pacing the Miami Heat in scoring (26.4), he is also one of the leading scorers in the league. He also leads the Heat in assists (6.9) and steals (1.5) per game and is second only to Bosh in rebounds
per game.
