LeBron James pounds 33 as Miami Heat stun San Antonio Spurs 120-98 - NBA Recap
Its games like these that make basketball so exciting.
Miami Heat were down and out by the end of first half, behind by 14 points 49-63, courtesy of an attacking display by the San Antonio Spurs. However, by the end of the third frame, the game had turned completely to Miami’s side.
The Heat, who were struggling to find baskets in the first half, changed gears in the third period and stunned the Spurs by outscoring them 39-12, courtesy of LeBron James and Chris Bosh who were just unstoppable in the frame. Spurs, shocked by the onslaught,
failed to make a comeback in the game and in the end all the Spurs players were down with hands on their hips, wondering what went wrong.
Heat coach Erik Spoelstra was overjoyed with the massive comeback his team pulled tonight.
"We have a great luxury with three players who can do special things when you need it. No question about it, LeBron and Chris were brilliant offensively tonight and shouldered a big load there. But I told the guys that make no mistake about it, the commitment,
the activity on the defensive side of the floor in the second half was about as good as we can be."
Heat were playing without the third member of “The Big Three” Dwyane Wade tonight, who was forced out of the game because of a sprained ankle. His absence was felt in the first half, however in the third, the other two members made everyone forget about
Dwyane.
LeBron was superb and finished with a game high 33 points on 12 for 21 from the floor including 4 for 6 from the long range along with 10 assists. He scored 17 of his total points in the game changing third quarter.
"I just tried to push through it in the third quarter. My teammates did a great job of finding me and stepping up defensively. We all did that." He said.
Chris Bosh drained 30 points, 8 boards and 5 assists while Mike Miller came off the bench and registered 18 on an accurate 6 for 6 from the floor.
Reserve Daniel Green led the Spurs with 20 points whereas Tony Parker netted 18 points. DeJuan Blair chipped in with 13 while Kawhi Leonard and Gary Neal both finished with 12 points each.
Miami gave further proof that their billing as favourites for the NBA World Championship this season was not off the mark with this performance and the rest of the league will surely take notice.
