LeBron James praises Ray Allen and his decision to sign with Miami Heat – NBA Update
Last season, Miami Heat won the NBA Championship by defeating Oklahoma City Thunder in five games, but the task of building a dynasty does not end there and making significant improvements to their roster is still a huge task.
That task received a huge boost yesterday when Ray Allen decided to end a five year association with the Boston Celtics and signed the Heat for a three year contract.
The move has left the reigning league and finals MVP, LeBron James very excited. He is currently taking part in team USA`s camp for the Olympics but did take some time to discuss the dynamics of the move and what it means for Miami.
"It was someone that we pursued and we have a lot of confidence in our front office and they went and did it, so we're excited to have Ray. Another guy that can stretch the floor for us, another guy that can make plays not only
for himself, but for others, and (he's) a champion. So he's going to fit right into what we want to do as a team and it's exciting."
The official announcement of the deal is still awaiting NBA`s moratorium period to end but Allen`s agent Jim Tanner confirmed that his client has agreed to a three year contract with the Heat.
The move to South Beach can be beneficial for both Miami and Allen in a lot of ways. By bringing in NBA`s all time leading three point maker, Miami can make use of the floor spreading, three point shooting, not to mention the 16
year playing experience and leadership.
On the other hand, Allen would be getting a more prominent position in a Championship calibre team, a role which he wasn’t going to get in Boston following the arrival of Jason Terry and Avery Bradley getting the starting nod from
Doc Rivers.
There had been doubts that Allen might choose to stay with the Celtics, a team he had won his first NBA Championship with back in 2008.
However , he eventually decided to chose the Heat and LeBron say that Heat will ensure that Allen feels wanted, unlike the C’s, who not only tried to trade him, but also took the starting position from him deep last season;
“We're going to welcome him, Miami's going to welcome him and his family with open arms. We look forward to him joining us."
