LeBron James reveals what it would mean to win the MVP honour once again - NBA Update
With the regular season winding down at a rapid pace, Miami Heat All-Star LeBron James has emerged as one of the strongest contenders for the MVP honours.
James who has won the prestigious honour twice before in his career recently opened up on the highly anticipated laurel;
"It would mean a lot, honestly, it would mean a lot," James said. "If I'm able to win it this year it would be very humbling knowing the calibre of guys who have won it three times."
The award would hold much higher value after the scrutiny James had to take after his move to the Heat from the Cleveland Cavaliers. He went on to describe it a personal goal which would ensure him returning to his original self.
"I'm just back to playing the way I play the game, with a lot of fun and a lot of joy and just not proving anything to anyone. Last year I felt I had to prove something to people. I have no idea why. But I got to that point and
it took me away from why I love the game so much and I why I love the NBA. I got away from that”.
James has been averaging 27.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 6.3 assists this season. His numbers have been of significant value as compared to last season as he has helped the Heat get a higher winning percentage.
The pressure of playing in a star-studded team does not seem to faze James a lot as he has accepted his role in Miami whether he plays with or without Dwyane Wade. James has helped the Heat in getting 11 wins out of the 12 games,
in which Wade has not featured this season so far.
Despite winning the MVP title twice, the Championship ring has eluded James so far in his 8 years in the league. The significance of the MVP award is so much that many greats like Abdul-Jabbar and Moses Malone won their first championship
the same year they got their third MVP title in. So getting that third MVP would mean a lot more to James if he caps of this season with a Championship. Heat, are definitely one of the strongest candidates to go all the way this season.
Only three players in the league have retired without a Championship despite winning the MVP honours - Charles Barkley, Karl Malone and Allen Iverson.
James has had a splendid season so far and has been ruled as the strongest candidate even by rival coaches, Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers being the most prominent.
"LeBron, to me, is the (MVP) favorite every year," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said last week. "If he doesn't win it, it's because people are tired of voting for him."
LeBron however still remains a very humble person, who grew up idolizing the likes of Jordan, Malone and Abdul-Jabbar. He has still not forgotten from where he came from and would love to be considered in the same league as those
players.
There is no doubt that his love for the game is still at the same level on which it was back in his school days or his days in Akron to the moment when he first picked up the basketball when he was 9 years old.
