LeBron James talks about Miami Heat; Says he has a lot of respect for Cleveland Cavaliers fans: NBA
LeBron James has mostly avoided the topic due to the intense media scrutiny, but in a recent detailed interview the forward spoke about moving to Miami from Cleveland. The Miami Heat star moved to the city last season from Cleveland.
His move to Miami as a free agent created a media storm. People left and right were busy making predictions about the on court future of the Miami Heat or the fallout from LeBron leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The events that led to the move and immediately followed it, namely “The Decision” and then the weird on stage celebrations, further intensified the media storm. LeBron had come to the Heat to join former NBA Finals MVP Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, formerly of the Toronto Raptors.
The trio was immediately dubbed the “Big Three” and everyone in the basketball world stood up to notice. Such a dominating array of talent had hardly ever been put together in the history of the NBA and teams far and wide instantly started fearing Miami.
In all the hoopla surrounding the Heat, and LeBron in particular, many people didn’t pay attention to another challenge that James faced during all this; is move to the city of Miami.
LeBron was born and bred in the state of Ohio. Once he declared for the NBA, he was drafted by the local NBA franchise; the Cleveland Cavaliers. He thus became a hometown hero and an icon in Ohio, and the 26 year old never lived outside the state.
His move to the Heat thus took him out of his comfort zone and James admits the transition was a challenge,
“It’s different because it was the first time I’ve ever lived anywhere besides Ohio in my life. It didn’t matter where I was going, if it was somewhere different than Ohio it was going to be a challenge for me.”
The forward revealed though that now he was comfortable in his new home and enjoyed it there,
“It took a little while to get used to but I’m very comfortable down there now. I know the city, I know the streets, I know where to go or not to go, but it’s fun.”
James was vilified for the move in his former Kingdom. Cavaliers’ fans berated him over the move to Miami and it seemed soon the whole of Ohio turned on him. LeBron though, when asked about his former fans, spoke of respect,
“Passionate. Passionate fans who love their sports. Love the Indians, love the Browns, love the Cavaliers… And I have a lot of respect for them.”
