LeBron James: the Winds about to change
After the humiliating defeat by the Boston Celtics, the Cleveland Cavaliers are keeping a fervent look on their MVP. The deadline is the 1st of July and then he will be a free agent, ready to make his move.
But it’s not just the Cavs that have a close-eye on him; other teams are keeping a close watch on the players’ future moves as well. After all, he is probably the most prominent, skilled and expensive player of his time. Now the move he is about to make can alter the dimensions of the game massively. The idol’s decision can create ramifications effecting millions of viewers and players around the world.
He hasn’t given an official statement about his plan just yet. Not even a clear ‘hint’. The closest he has come was when he said, “First of all, I want to win. That’s my only concern. It’s always about winning for me. I think the Cavs are committed to doing that."
Anyway, that doesn’t stop the rumours flying in the air. There is news that the star might make a move to the Knicks or the Nets. The Mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg has acknowledged that and said that if Lebron asks about the living style of New York, he was ready with a ‘big sales pitch’. He said, “What’s it like to live in New York, I’ll give him a big sales pitch for New York”.
Mayor Bloomberg further said, “Rumours are that both the Knicks and the Nets would like to get him. I would never take sides on that, but I think it would be great for New York if he would come here.” But from that, he certainly seems to be doing a campaign on his level about James.
Despite the defeat of the Cavs and James, fans all over the place are talking about the probable move. In an attempt to curb that, the fans and his home city’s mayor are voicing their thoughts too. They are still urging James not to leave the Cavs, but after the top seeded Cavs were knocked out from the Eastern Conference, James has got to think that the chase for his first title is getting more desperate and he needs to act as fast as he can. The two times MVP had an injury in the match but he made no excuses about it. They were defeated this Thursday by the Celtics in Game number 6.
His hometown fans aren’t far behind in the campaign to keep him at home. In a recent song by the Clevelanders and the Ohio governor Ted Strickland, they expressed their thoughts in a song which said, ‘Please stay, Lebron’, ‘No bigger market’s gonna love you half as much as we do.’
They even went a step ahead and directly involved New York in the song saying, “New York’s overcrowded. Those people are unbearable. And don’t forget, the Knicks and Nets are terrible.”
This would be the first time that political representatives are going to such lengths to bring a player into their territories. Mayor Don Plusquellic of Akron, where James grew up (an hour’s drive from Cleveland, the place where James spent his early years.) said, “Who the h**l would want to live in New York?” Being the advocate of his city he said, “It’s not a cold place where everybody is just a number. New York is not so warm and fuzzy.”
You might be wondering how James can have such an impact on people. Well for those of you, who don’t know about James charismatic personality, let me tell you the man is born with the gift of leadership. He has an inspiring story and moves people by self-acting first. He has made a dramatic change in Cleveland, becoming a worldwide icon, and that’s what other pursuers so desperately want... a hero.
