LeBron James thrilled after witnessing the match between Manchester United and Liverpool – NBA News
On Saturday, October 15, NBA super star LeBron James attended the English Premier League match between Liverpool and Manchester United and was blown away by the experience. The Miami Heat forward is a minority owner of Liverpool football club and this was his first time in the Anfield stands.
Upon his arrival, James had tweeted about his excitement at the mouth-watering prospect of the clash between the clubs, the rivalry between whom has been well documented through history.
The game and the atmosphere at Anfield, the traditional home of Liverpool, did not disappoint James, who came away from the experience with a broad smile on his face. The towering basketball player shared his feelings with fans after the game via social networking website, twitter,
"One of the single best experiences of my life!" The multimillionaire Miami Heat star exclaimed "What a great game from both teams! Unbelievable."
Liverpool and Manchester United are two of the biggest football clubs in the world, and the two biggest in England. Manchester United have 19 English league titles to their name whilst Liverpool have 18, and the close proximity brings extra bite to the encounter.
Although the famous atmosphere at Anfield would have been enough to bowl over James, a cracker of a game added more spice. After a cagey first half, the game came to life in the second as the Reds went on the offensive.
They were rewarded for their adventurous mindset when a free kick by the captain, Steven Gerrard, found its way through the United wall and into the back of David de Gea’s net. The goal came as a result of a mistake by legendary Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs, who left a gap in the wall for Gerrard to exploit.
Not to be outdone, the Red Devils struck back through Javier Hernandez.
United’s Mexican import got his head at the end of a corner after some good work from Danny Welbeck, to draw level in the game. The crowd roared with anticipation in the last minutes of the game as both sides went for the jugular and chances aplenty were squandered.
The 1-1 score line at the end was probably justified, although James, being a basketball player, wouldn’t have been used to a game ending in a draw. His tweet though showed just how brilliant the experience was and the super star would be hoping to catch a few more games now that he has got a taste of the action.
