LeBron James to announce future "decision" in a different way
After drawing a lot of criticisms during the off-season, LeBron James said on Monday 1 November that he’s going to announce future decisions in a different way.
The two-time and reigning Most Valuable Player, who was criticized after announcing his free agency choice in an hour-long ESPN, said that things will be different in the future, but reiterated
that he has no regrets about his decision of signing with the Miami Heat.
"If I had to go back on it, I probably would do it a little bit different," James said. "But I'm happy with the decision I made. There's always going to be a misunderstanding. I don't know
what I would have done, but I definitely would have changed it."
James also jokingly said that teams should start talking to him and recruit him for the 2015-16 season after his contract with the Heat expires.
The 25-year old forward, James, is still expected to draw a lot of attention after his six-year deal with Miami ends because he will still be in his prime barring any major injuries.
"I'll be 30, I'll be all right still, too," said James before leading the Heat to a 101-78 victory over the New Jersey Nets on Sunday 31 October. "I'm here. I'm a Heat, man. So we'll see
what happens."
James racked up 20 points, seven assists, and seven rebounds, against the Nets, who were the first one to talk with him during the free-agency recruitment period in July. He was visited by
Nets’ officials, including head coach Avery Johnson and Russian owner Mikhail Prokhorov, and James said that the meeting was a positive experience for him.
"I'm here in Miami, but it was a great meeting," James said. "I left with definitely respect for this organization, respect for Avery Johnson, respect for the owner and for everyone that
has anything to do with the Nets. Nothing bad from that meeting and nothing bad I have to say about this organization. It was great."
He also talked with the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers, Chicago Bulls, and the Cleveland Cavaliers, but when asked to make a ranking or order of preference, James said that he never
ranked those teams.
"Not really," James said. "It was some meetings that were better than others. But at the end of the day, this was the team I felt like I had the best opportunity to win for a long period
of time. I didn't have a list, one through six or one through five, whatever the case was."
James also clarified that the Nets’ 12-70 record last season did not affect his decision of not accepting New Jersey’s offer, saying that the Nets has a bright future ahead of them which
was evident after starting the season with a 2-0 record.
