LeBron James wins second consecutive MVP award
For the second year in a row Lebron James showed everyone why he is considered the best basketball player in the world by dominating the NBA in the regular season.
Averaging 29.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 8.6 assists a game LeBron wiped the floor in the voting claiming 116 first place votes. The next closest to him? Kevin Durant with just four.
James becomes the 10th player in NBA history to win consecutive MVP awards and the first since Steve Nash won his second consecutive MVP in 2006. And to celebrate his award James did the usual, thank his family and friends, high school coaches and everyone else who was in attendance.
But for James winning the MVP means nothing on an individual level and he credited his teammates with making him the player he is.
"I'm sorry, but all my teammates, you have to come up here with me, man.
"My name may be put on the front of that trophy, but these guys have a lot to do with it,” James said, pointing at the Maurice Podoloff Trophy.
It’s that kind of mentality which sets James apart from everyone else and though he has the talent to do everything in the game himself, it’s his consummate team play which fans and critics admire.
But LeBron can be a free agent this summer and if he wins a championship with his hometown team what will he do? If his speech is anything to go by, it might be the end of his time in Cleveland.
“Since I was a kid, I always said I'd find a way to put Akron on the map, it will always be my home and it will always be my life.
"Akron, Ohio is my home, Akron, Ohio will always be remembered. Akron, Ohio is my life and I love this city,” James said.
"I love this place to death. Every day I wake up I understand that I'm not just carrying myself but I'm also carrying this city to bigger and better heights. No matter where life may head me, I'm never gone from here."
If that’s his goodbye speech it’s an early one, but is Cleveland really big enough for LeBron James? That question can only be answered by James himself and by the end of the summer we will know the answer to it.
