LeBron James wouldn’t mind Derek Fisher’s addition to the Miami Heat roster – NBA Update
The Miami Heat super star LeBron James dropped a hint about Derek Fisher when he opined that the veteran could help Miami if he were to join the franchise. Fisher, a long time Los Angeles Lakers player who won five NBA World Championships whilst at the club, is currently a free agent and looking for a new challenge.
Fisher was traded at the deadline by the Lakers to Houston Rockets, who were looking for an experienced point guard to lead the young team into a playoff spot. Derek however was not on board and the move came as a surprise to him.
He has since negotiated a buy out of his contract with the Rockets, indicating that he would instead prefer being a part of a title push.
Miami Heat are hot favourites to win the NBA World Championship this year and they do have a roster space empty. Now Heat super star LeBron has declared that Fisher would be welcome in the dressing room if the Heat management were to make a move for him.
"One thing you know about Derek Fisher is that he's a winner; he's not afraid of the moment and he's won multiple championships," Heat star LeBron James said Monday, according to ESPN.
LeBron said he didn’t make the executive decisions, nor had any knowledge of the thinking upstairs, but someone with Fisher’s experience and leadership would not be a bad fit for any team.
"I don't know what our plans are but I don't see it as a bad fit it if happens. What we have we're comfortable with, but he could fit anyone's team because of his leadership and his commitment to winning."
The principle reason for Fisher being traded by Los Angeles was a significant dip in his athleticism. The veteran has also not been posting encouraging numbers for the last few years. With Miami already possessing two young point guards, and a number of mobile wingmen, they don’t appear to be in need of his service too much.
On the other hand, they have been eyeing a centre or power forward to help out Chris Bosh in the rebounding department, as the team still looks a little light there. It is therefore hard to fathom a move for Fisher by the club.
In fact, Fisher isn’t exactly in high demand around the NBA, especially with teams contending for the NBA title. Opinion on his value seems to be divided at the moment in the league.
"I think he's just about done," said one executive.
"He doesn't have much left but he could win a playoff game for you," said another.
"I think he's got something left; he could help a team," said one head coach.
