LeBron will sign on Thursday on ESPN
The biggest-ever free agency frenzy might be coming to a close on Thursday at 9pmET.
News broke on Tuesday night that LeBron’s representatives were in discussions with ESPN about a one-hour special where the free agent will announce his decision on TV. ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard broke the news on his twitter after confirming with the network's bosses.
LeBron’s representatives had requested to sell sponsorship rights for the special, with proceeds going to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Reports say ESPN have agreed to the deal but have not been told where James will sign.
His announcement will put an end to two years of speculation and reports suggest it is now a race between his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers and the New York Knicks. The one-hour special has added fuel to the LeBron rumours and has some people speculating this is going to be a goodbye to Cleveland special.
Certainly that theory makes a lot of sense. Why would LeBron need an hour to announce he’s staying at home? It doesn’t make sense, it has the feeling of a goodbye speech and LeBron might go through his reasoning for leaving the Cavaliers, if he so does.
Also consider this, LeBron has a new website, has joined twitter and is announcing his decision on ESPN. That’s something written for the bright lights of New York, unless James is just milking the situation and will in fact stay in Cleveland.
Either way most sports fans will tune into ESPN at 9pmET on Thursday for the biggest announcement in NBA free agency history.
