Lead tape on Putter?

Will putting lead tape on a putter cause putts to travel further. My home course has slow greens and I'm considering putting lead tape onto the bottom of my putter. How much lead tape should I put? Thanks.

  1. Go to a golf shop and get yourself some lead tape. I think you can also get it on golfsmith.com under their clubmakers' section. Adding lead tape is a great way to increase the inertia on your putter. I did the exact same thing to my putter, an Odyssey DF Rossie putter. I put 2-2" strips on the back directly behind the face, now that putter feels like magic in your hands.

The only way you can tell how much is too much, is put lead tape on it a little at a time, then putt around with it to see how you like it, putter weight is a very personal thing. Good luck with your modifications!

  2. 32.5 inches is extremely short. Standard is 34-35 inches. A longer putter will make the club feel heavier. Try lead tape, it won't hurt, you can always take it off. The distance you putt the ball is determined by the length of the stroke, not trying to "force" the ball further. Short putt, short stroke. Longer putt, longer stroke.

  3. I would suggest top rolling your putts if you have slow greens. This gives you two benefits 1. Keeps the ball on line 2. Keeps the ball rolling longer.

    Good Luck

  4. Use a harder cored ball instead of soft feel type.

  5. Slow greens are not a problem. Just swing a little harder. The longer the distance the harder the stroke. The proper amount of energy exerted comes from practice and that is where the feel of the green is most important. The practice green should be similiar to the greens on the course.Just transfer the knowledge from practice to reality. No need for leaded tape.

  6. get a 34" putter...

the best thing to do is to learn to adjust your stroke to putt well.  changing the weight of your putter is a cop-out to learning to judge greens

  7. It would not be practical.  Just put around for a wile before every round to get the feel the the greens

  8. This is just a matter of personal preference, just like putter length or type of head.  Some people like heavier putter heads, some do not.  If you tend to leave your putts short, you might consider playing around with lead tape on your putter.

You might also to to a golf superstore and make some putts with putters of all different weights and see if you putt better with a heavier putter.  It is also a possibility that you may just have a bad habit of leaving putts short regardless of putter weight.  If that's the case, the the lead tape probably won't help much with distance.

  9. It will make the ball go farther. Greater inertia=greater distance. Downhill putts will become impossible though
