Hi , I'm just looking for tips on the right way to lead train a 10 weeks old puppy who is very playful and obedient ( I had her 2 days and she now sits whenever I tell her) I have tried the bribing way but am worried if this is the right way! She cant go on walks for another 2 weeks so I have loads of time . She walks well when I have a treat in my hand but I have to show her the treat to make her move! I don't mind giving her treats while training but will she expect a treat every time we go on a proper walk and stop moving once she realizes I don't have them with me?

thanks for the help !

  1. It's fine, just make sure you praise her, and consistently use a phrase to get her to come, like "Come Here Cutie!" and say it whether or not you have a treat and eventually she will learn to come without the treat.

  2. I've always trained dogs using treats (for everything) and the dogs get weaned off the treats once they know what they're doing.  You start teaching them using a lot of treats, then they gradually get less and less.  But I always carry treats with me and they get them unexpectedly just because!  After all, would you want to work for nothing?

Your puppy will walk just for the joy of walking and for verbal praise, plus the occasional treat once she gets the hang of it.
