Formula 1 teams planning meeting in Stuttgart about future of F1
Recent reports have revealed that the top running teams of F1 are going to hold a meeting in Stuttgart in order to discuss the future of the sport.
These reports have been circulating since the last month and it was revealed that Exor might partner with News Corporation in handling the sport’s media activities. Exor is controlled by the Agnelli family, who are also responsible of running the car manufacturers
Fiat, which owns Ferrari.
It has been revealed that the representatives of McLaren, Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull Racing Team are going to hold a meeting about the new Concorde Agreement, technical changes and also the takeover speculation.
The sport is expected to go through some major technical changes before the 2013 Formula 1 season with the introduction of the four cylinder turbo charged power engines and it is believed that since most of the teams are against these developments, these
matters will be discussed during this meeting extensively.
Ferrari has been involved with News Corp’s proposals and it is believed that this issue might be raised during that meeting as well.
“We have no comment to make, partly because we are not directly involved at the moment. All we can do is repeat what has already been said so often in the past - Ferrari stresses the importance of ensuring the long term stability and development of Formula
One”, said a spokesman from Ferrari.
Other than that, McLaren’s boss, Martin Whitmarsh, who is also the chairman of FOTA (Formula 1 Teams’ Association) told the media that the teams are more cohesive than they have ever been before in the sport.
“I think whoever owns the sport in the future, be that the current owners or new owners, it's just important that the teams are more cohesive than they have ever been”, said Whitmarsh.
There are rumours that this meeting is being held in order to increase the pressure on Formula 1 Management’s CEO, Bernie Ecclestone, since the new Concorde Agreement is expected to be defined very soon and it is believed that this is the first time in the
sport’s history that all of the teams of the sport are going to make a collective attempt in order to get a better deal from the organizers of the sport.
“If Formula One is interesting in the future for manufacturers we need to ensure that all the elements of motor racing are there in equal measure”, said team boss, Stefano Domenicali.
Technically, the sport has been lagging and the newly introduced regulations of the sport have been highly criticized as well, as a result of which, it is believed that the top running teams of the sport are now going to discuss the technical aspects and
the future of the sport very soon.
