Leading the WSF World Junior Circuit Rankings – El Shorbagy and El Tayeb reign the podium
Reigning the Squash Junior World Championship, Marwan El Shorbagy and Nour El Tayeb, Egyptions, are headin the new WSF World Junior Circuit rankings updated recently by the World Squash Federation.
Two years after his elder Brother won the crown for the second time, the 18-year-old Eld Shorbagy wrote history when the Egyption won the WSF Men’s World Junior Individual Championship throne in Belgium back in July 2011.
Marwan and Mohamed El Shorbagy, are now the first brothers in the history of sport’s to win World Individual Titles, however, currently are ranked eighth in the world.
Perhaps only a week after that, Harvard University, Boston, USA, the 17-year-old, revived glory in 2011 by securing the title as he was disappointed finishing up as runner-up in 2009 and in 2010 as well.
The fiery Egyptians also held the second spot in both Inaugural lists- 15-year-old Nour El Sherbini, winner of the 2009 world Junior Championship, in the women’s category and Mohamed Abouelghar, runner-up to El Shorbagy in Belgium in the men’s competition.
However, the Indian’s have reached the third spot in the men’s category; Mahesh Mangaonkar is now ranked as world No.3, ahead of the Brit world No.4, Oliver Holland, who has also won Hong Kong Junior Open back in August.
Other than that, Lee Ka Yi of Hong Kong takes the third place in women’s Competition. Yi took a step ahead in ranking from her title success in Junior Open title at home, Hong Kong Open Title. Tailing the Chinese is the 17-year-old Indian, Anaka Alankamony, at fourth place, who has also won an Indian Junior Open Champions.
Based on under-19 grouping, the new WSF Junior Circuit Rankings will be issue quarterly, based on national Junior open results and also regional championships and WSF World Junior Individual Championship winnings.
“The World Junior Circuit has taken shape and really does link the major events of the world junior scene,” explained WSF CEO Andrew Shelley. “It also gives our future stars a benchmark against which to chart their progress.”
However, this might lead to drastic changes in the rankings. Nevertheless, the players would now play much consistently and would work harder to attain the top level.
