Leafs acquire Jamal Mayers? Good or bad?

I just went to NHL.com and I see that the Toronto Maple Leafs(my team =D) have just acquired Jamal Mayers!!! Leafs traded away their 3rd round draft pick for him.

Here is the link:

So the question is do you think this is a good move by Cliff Fletcher or a bad move? Will it help the organization at all? Will he do good in Toronto? Also, do you think the Leafs got a good deal by trading away their third rounder for Mayers?

  1. I live in St. Louis. Mayers was decent back when we had a good cast surrounding him. These past few seasons proved he's not that good. This is another bad attempt by Toronto to cover up even worse moves, and proving they are unwilling to commit to any high level of talent.

  2. The Leafs need new blood. However, Mayers is at best a mediocre player. It may turn out to be a good move, but right now I'd say they could have done better.

  3. Mayers plays with a little bit of grit. It is something the Leafs lost at the Trade deadline trading all their players that played with that edge. He'll fit in on the third or fourth line. Getting a little more ice time than Wade used to get and Give a little spark to Moore and Newbury. That will be a lot of fun to watch this year.

  4. I don't know yet......My first instinct was it was a bad move on the Leafs part......I'm never been a big fan of Mayers, but only time will tell I suppose.

  5. So much for the commitment to youth and building a team through the draft. Where was Zetterberg drafted?? 214th?? This tells me the Leafs have NO creditable scouting staff.

  6. Yeah, good trade.

A third rounder is a year or two out in my opinion.

Jamal is a seasoned veteran who win play NOW.

The Leafs are trying to recover from past mistakes.

But at least you have a great coach now.I hope they do well.

  7. That is good for the Leafs but bad for the Blues

Jamal Mayers is one of my favorite players.

  8. In Fletch we trust. It's a pretty good deal, in my opinion. I think the Leafs got Mayers for a decent price. For what, I'm not too sure, but at least the team has a fresh face; instead of the old ones who are being treated like a spoiled royal family.

Also, wasn't he on the gold medal team at the '07 Worlds?

  9. Hmmm, I think it's good on the Leaf's part. I don't see why the Blues did that, I would be kinda ticked if they were my team.
