Phaneuf minus 5 in last 3 games.A week ago, the city had been in complete bliss after the team won four straight games to begin the season. But after Saturday's deflating 5-2 loss to the New York Rangers, fans are already mourning what could have been.
So what happened? And, after seven games, which Toronto team is for real?: What has gone right: Phil Kessel, Clarke MacArthur
Both players have six goals in the first seven games. Most expected this out of Kessel, but MacArthur, who is 11 goals away from his career high, is so having a Jose Bautista-type breakthrough. The most encouraging aspect is that both have contributed regardless of how the rest of the team has played.
Kessel had Toronto's lone goal in a 2-1 overtime loss to the New York Islanders. And he and MacArthur were the only scorers in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Phil-adelphia Flyers.
Goaltending J.S. Giguere, who has a .900 save percentage, has started five games, but, after Saturday's loss, expect Jonas Gustavsson (.912 save percentage) to receive his third Tuesday against the Florida Panthers. Would someone tell me that when Leafs will put thier first goal in NHL?
