League, Players Association continue Talking Under the Radar -NHL Lockout
The National Hockey League (NHL) and Players’ Association reportedly met under the radar during the wee hours of Saturday, which continued till Sunday and did not really let out any information as to what happened and whether or not if any significant progress
was made.
As far as the NHL lockout is concerned, it is now entering its eight week after the previous collective bargaining agreement came to an end on September 15, 2012, and still has both sides deadlocked. The Winter Classic was the latest casualty of the lockout
as the league did not hesitate in cancelling it and letting down million of diehard fans.
Just a couple of days back, it was reported that the NHL was ready to honour the players contracts that were signed prior to the deadlock, but Steve Fehr, special counsel to the NHL Players Association, came out to term it to be a rumour.
"You may have seen media reports this evening of a supposed league "offer" regarding the ‘make-whole’ aspect of the negotiations. There have been no proposals from either side since the last talks took place on October 18th,” Fehr said, according
to CSNPhilly.com.
He was also the one who let the media know about NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and NHLPA executive director, Donald Fehr’s planned meeting for the upcoming day, but the location as not disclosed in order to keep both sides focused on talks only and making
some significant progress.
"Following further phone conversations today, Bill Daly and Steve will meet tomorrow in a city and location that both sides have agreed to keep confidential in an attempt to keep the focus on the talks and not on conducting media scrums. We will update everyone
following this meeting tomorrow," Fehr added.
At the moment, there are no such updates as to what was discussed in the meeting and how well it has turned out for either side. The next few days should be watched closely as both stakeholders will obviously be rushing in order to try and save what remains
of the regular season, with some insiders terming their still being a chance to reincarnate the Winter Classic.
