League, Players Association set Monday to Kick Off Negotiations, Again -NHL Update
The National Hockey League (NHL) and Players’ Association have set Monday as the day to continue negotiating on a new collective bargaining agreement, once again, after previous talks came to an end more than a week ago.
It seems like both sides were at one point, actually desperate to get a new labour deal into place after a number of casualties came around. The first was the entire preseason, followed by a major chunk of the 2012-2013 NHL regular season followed by the
2012 NHL Winter Classic.
"We can confirm that we have tentatively agreed to get back together on Monday, either late in the afternoon or early evening," NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said. "The meeting was requested by the Union and it's their agenda. We will see what they have
to tell us."
It has been over two months now since the previous labour deal came to an end and both sides have not yet been able to bring about a new enforcement to get the puck back on the ice.
If nothing significant comes around in the next few days, games are expected to be cancelled up until the December 15th mark, and if nothing after that again, the entire regular season just may be going down the drain. Fans are also on the verge
of diverting their attention to something else and give up the sport as they seem to be fed up with the non compromising attitude of both sides, including the labour union.
With over 64 days gone by now, key issues are still on the table to be discussed as both sides have yet to reach a mutual consensus on a number of aspects, including core economic factors which are seriously hindering any progression.
These next couple of days are set to be highly important as the two stakeholders need to continue working hard on getting a deal done if they want any progression and new deal to come into force, or else fans can say bye to an entire hockey year.
Updates should be expected in the next couple of days as the two sides meet.
