League 'Not Serious' states Edmonton Oilers' Shawn Horcoff -NHL Lockout Update
After two meetings this week alone, it looks like the lockout is stronger than ever right when fans were about to think that they would be seeing some hockey played in the near future and according to the Edmonton Oilers veteran forward, Shawn Horcoff, team
owners and commissioner Gary Bettman are ‘not serious’ with what they have to offer.
The 34-year-old has been in the National Hockey League (NHL) long enough to tell how serious the team owners and their representative are being towards them and seeing how the league rejected all three of their offers in a matter of minutes is more than
the proof he needs to back his statements.
“I am worried for the season, I’m really worried,” said Edmonton Oilers veteran Shawn Horcoff, who attended the face-to-face bargaining session in Toronto, according to the Edmonton Sun. “Especially after today, seeing what I saw. I think the next step is
cancelling another big chunk of games, probably into the middle of November.”
“We went in there, presented three proposals, each of them getting down to 50% (share of hockey related revenue) and they didn’t spend any time on them at all. We were literally out of there in eight to 10 minutes.”
Horcoff is a former 99th overall draft pick of the Edmonton Oilers back during the 1998 NHL Entry Draft in round-four. He has played in 765 games thus far, all with Edmonton, and has 435 points to his name with 155 goals and 280 assists.
Last season was one of his better ones as the forward put up 34 points (13 goals, 21 assists) in 81 games played after a slow 2010-2011 regular season in which he had just 27 points (9 goals, 18 assists) in 47 games played.
The veteran went on to add that they felt like the league had no respect for them, or what they said at all. He could tell by their uncompromising attitude that no matter what they put on the table, even if it was more in the favour of team owners, the league
was not going to accept it, making this lockout incredibly hard to predict.
