League Looking to Cancel All Contracts if Players Association Dissolved -NHL Lockout Update
The National Hockey League (NHL) is on the brink as they considered there to be a verbal agreement between themselves and the NHL Players’ Association, but has now taken a new route of wanting all contracts to be null and void if the labour union is dissolved.
While the Players’ Association considers it the choice of players to have formal representation or not, the union is not willing to give up that choice to the league and will be going ahead with a vote on Sunday, which could last five days citing that more
than 700 members are expected to participate.
According to various sources, the league is arguing that the labour union has not been loyal to the agreement made between them to continue representing each of their sides respective interest and this decertification would be unconstitutional on all ground.
In defence of the Players’ Association, there is no need of doing the required as they consider deals done before the collective bargaining agreement coming to an end as those which were done in full consideration of there being a lockout coming up.
Most contracts were signed in the days leading up to the lockout and knowingly full of their actions, team owners must be held responsible instead of the players since they are the ones who had the final authority of doing so, which is a point many analysts
put forth.
As of now, one this has become certain and that is talks are not something which will bring the two closer, but have forced them farther apart as even federal mediators failed to mediate a deal between the two despite being a part of the process twice.
Players and team owners, together, even failed to make the much needed difference as they sat down, face-to-face, for the very first and last time earlier this month with talks collapsing in the following meeting.
Updates should be expected in the next couple of days as the voting process to decertify the union kicks off and the legal process continues by the league through a federal prosecutor. It should just keep on getting more interesting from here on.
