League One semi-final play-off second leg preview – Millwall v Huddersfield
What separates good and special players is their ability to perform at the most crucial time possible.
When the chips are down, certain players just have the knack of making heroes of themselves.
Step forward Neil Harris of Millwall.
Harris leads the all-time scoring charts for the Lions, with 122 goals and is a legend among the Millwall fan base. Not to mention his recovery from testicular cancer, which not only threatened his career but put his life at a severe risk.
It’s Huddersfield that stand in the Lions' way this evening, and the home side know a victory will be enough to push them one step closer to the Championship following a battling 0-0 at the Galpharm Stadium on Saturday. And the Millwall front man is confident about the prospects of promotion despite last year's ultimately disappointing season, when Millwall saw off Leeds in the play-off semi-finals before losing to Scunthorpe at Wembley.
Harris told the Telegraph Sport: "The incentive of getting back to Wembley is massive. We have a score to settle with that place. There are no scars. It's just given us inspiration and positives. We want to put things right.
“We weren't good enough to get past Scunthorpe and now we have a better squad and the experience of beating Leeds over two legs and playing at Wembley gives us an advantage over the other teams.
"The play-offs haven't been kind to us but that's maybe because Lady Luck hasn't smiled on us. When you've had five cracks at the play-offs and failed your luck is bound to change sooner or later."
Huddersfield captain Peter Clarke, who has been outspoken in the week claiming Millwall’s Scott Baron dived in order to win a penalty in the first leg, scored the winner when the two sides met a month ago and is relishing making himself a hero once again.
Clarke told the club’s official website: "Sure, it would be nice to get the winner again, but I'll take it bouncing off someone's backside if it means the goal wins us the game.
"All the lads will say the same, but we are under no illusions - it is going to be a tough 90 minutes. But we believe we have enough in us to progress."
The skipper is obviously confident, but he has the enviable task of marking Harris tonight. The script-writers will be dipping their quills into the ink tonight anticipating a headline which involves Harris, a Millwall win and a fairytale ending.
Just face it Peter, some things are just meant to be.
