League leaders Vancouver Canucks win 4-2 against the Ottawa Senators

The final game of Monday saw the league leaders; Vancouver Canucks host the Ottawa Senators at the Rogers Arena. Both teams played the 54th game of the season and this was the 801st game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series.
Ottawa Senators matched the Vancouver Canucks throughout the game firing shots on goals and playing with an attacking mentality. However, Canucks were too strong for the Senators and with the tight defence and strong offence emerged as 4-2 winners of the
match. Mikael Samuelsson, winger of the Canucks was named the star selection for his two goals and assist in one of the other goals.
Ottawa Senators were stronger of the two teams as the game started as they had nothing to lose and a win was all they wanted. They put the foot on the gas right from the word go. Though some of the attacks were cut by the tight Canucks defence but some also
couldn’t.
However, Ottawa Senators couldn’t manage to score despite finding the net empty once. Canucks also took the initiative to attack as they realized that sitting back wasn’t the right approach. The change in strategy worked for the Canucks immediately as they
scored in the 9th minute through Alexandre Burrows from a wonderful wrap around shot to get into the lead.
The Canucks continued to pile pressure on the away side and successfully doubled their lead with another goal in the next minute scored by Ryan Kesler from a well placed flick shot. After the goal, Canucks didn’t look to attack that much whereas Senators
kept on attacking. No further goals were witness as the period ended with Canucks leading 2-0. During the period Canucks made 5 goal attempts while Senators made 10 goal attempts.
The second period of the game was evenly matched between the two sides in terms of goal attempts but Ottawa Senators were the winners in the period as they scored twice compared to one goal scored by Vancouver Canucks.
Canucks struck first blood in the period scoring in the 3rd minute through Mikael Samuelsson to take the score to 3-0. However, it wasn’t long until the Ottawa Senators started to come up with strong plays as well.
The away side scored two goals in succession to cut the lead to just one goal with still 10 minutes of period left to play. The first of these goals was scored by Nick Foligno in the 6th minute while the later was scored by Jason Spezza in the
8th minute respectively.
The period saw the a few more goal attempts made by both teams but no more goals were scored as the period ended with Canucks leading 3-2.
The final period of the game was a very hard fought and interesting battle which saw both teams attacking and defending to make sure that they didn’t let the game slip from their hands. As the period neared its end attacks and shots started to increase.

A goal was surely going to be scored and was in the dying stages of the match in favour of the Canucks who sealed the win with this. The goal was scored by Mikael Samuelsson from a decent strike. The period and game ended with Canucks winning 4-2.
