League officially cancels all Preseason Scheduled Events in view of Lockout -NHL Update
The National Hockey League (NHL) has made it official that all scheduled events, that were part of the preseason, have been cancelled as of Wednesday, September 19, 2012, till September 30th in view of the current lockout that persists in the
hockey world.
With no such news of the NHL and Players’ Association having been able to make any significant progress in this regard, the league has come to the conclusion that it has no other choice but to cancel all such events scheduled for the previously mentioned
timeframe.
Some players like Alex Ovechkin, captain of the Washington Capitals, while talking to the Washington Post had warned the media that a lot of players might not come back if their contracts are cut and their share of the team revenue is lessened.
“If they’re going to cut a percentage of the contract and years, I don’t think lots of guys who signed American deals are going to come back and play here,” Ovechkin told the Washington Post. “It’s not reasonable to be here. You have to think of the future,
you have to think of your family.”
A number of teams like the Detroit Red Wings, Pittsburgh Penguins, Chicago Blackhawks and Washington Capitals will not be playing in their games scheduled for later on this month and may have a few remaining in October before the new 2012-2013 regular season
is supposed to kick in. Despite that, many have already predicted that the lockout will continue to stay firm in its place and is definitely to interfere with the hockey season.
The reported amount of games that have been cancelled due to the fresh announcement is set to be at 61, while many more can be expected to follow in upcoming days seeing how the tensions continue to rise between both stakeholders.
A number of players from the NHL have already signed on to foreign clubs and more are expected to continue doing so in the days that follow. Many players are cemented on the fact that playing somewhere else is much better as to continue facing the uncompromising
attitude of the league and team owners.
