does anyone else find it funny how any australian rugby legue convert is almost immediately in the running to play union for australia, i seriously cannot think of one league convert who has not made a huge impact on union... look at ryan cross and clinton schifcoske this year, they were harldy league test material but before they even play one union game they are already considered for the world cup where they would just be a waste of talent.. any thoughts

  1. League was full of union players, and cheque book charlies would basically buy whole welsh club sides in the 80's and 90's... This myth about it going the other way is rediculous. Rugby league players can't handle the technical aspects union...(apart from jason robinson - who lets be honest -doesn't really have to do more than he did in league, as his job is basically exactly the same.).

  2. Maybe leauge is simply of a higher standard in Australia?

However it is more likely due to the media that these players are being proposed as possible world cup players i.e it just sounds like a good story.

In Europe some players have failed to live up to the hype henry paul, Ieysten harris and even Andy Farrel looks likely to have lost his cahnce of playing at the highest level in union.

Interestingly my team Munster are rumored to be interseted in signing Great Britain wing Brian Carney, who played league for Wiagn and more recently in Australia.

  3. League has always had greater television coverage, therefore, participants than Union in Australia. League has had the greater chance of having better quality players to choose from. Now Union comes along with their cheque book and takes all the best players that they can persuade out of League. Any promising player that takes interest in Union is thrown a offer they can't refuse. Clinton always had been an amazing player in league, it just went unnoticed in selection. He's now showing the Union world how well he plays. Considering them for the RWC is simply an idea to get Australia out of their form slump. They're grasping at ideas and hoping that new blood will help us. Let's hope Australia can pick up from their current form in time for the RWC.
