  1. Generally, males start 9-ball and 8-ball as a 4 and females start as a 2 in 9-ball and 3 in 8-ball. However, if a player is known in the area, he may start higher. I've known people who started as 7s and 9s in their first league session ever. Usually the pool room owner or a respected league player will give input about what the handicap should be.

Oh, and men can be a 2 in both 8 and 9-ball (2 is the lowest ranking in 8-ball) but can't be a 1 in 9-ball (lowest ranking in 9-ball).

  2. I am not talking about mixed leagues, but we used to play, and the points you got every week, were averaged out, and that's how you got your standings!.

He would start even, we had that happen many times, and many times they didn't do as well as they were brought in to do!. counting the 8, as 2 points, and 1 for every  ball you left the guy with, so a run, was nine points, unless one of his was made on brake!. 3 game total possible, was 27 points.rarely done!.

Some other leagues were different, handicapped, where the better team would give up points!. once we gave up 54points and still won match, they won one game. 2 points.

I think we actually won all games, long time.

  3. Dre O nailed it exactly...in earlier years males started at 3 and woman at 2  AND regardless of there scoring a male was never able to be ranked at 2 level. This also seems to have changed. I also conquer APA is bunk...I have seen first hand favortism displayed by league operators making the team not favored have to beat the team, referee and the increasing of ranks of it's players by the league operator even in the middle of a play off. Rayford Powers is one such operator in South Florida.

  4. If he's started the league for the 1st time, males start off at a handicap of 4, women 3...then they determine what your handicap is after your first game...and it keeps getting determined by your game play, after every week.. innings per match, depending on what the handicap of your opponent is and such..if that person quits for a while...then joins again, he starts off at the same handicap where he/she left off at :)...bleahhh...i hate the APA though...fkn ripoffs DreO
