League terms Labour Union offers as 'Step Backward' -NHL Lockout Update
The National Hockey League (NHL) really looked like they wanted a deal done as soon as possible after coming up with a 50-50 revenue split offer on Tuesday, earlier this week, but seemed unresponsive to any counter proposal made by the Players’ Association
on Thursday, in their second meeting in these past few days.
Each and every passing day is crucial in regards to whether fans will get to see a full 82-game regular season by November 2nd, and if there is not something confirmative by then, it will be hard to tell if any hockey will be played this year
or not.
For NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and team owners, actions of the NHLPA on Thursday forced them to take a step backward and revaluate just where they are standing at the moment, since to the, the labour union is not acting in a fair manner.
"The Players' Association came back and basically made three alternate proposals on the players' share, all variations, to some degree, of the one proposal that they made over the summer and really haven't deviated from since," Commissioner Bettman said.
"And none of the three variations of players' share that they gave us even began to approach 50-50 (revenue split) either at all or for some long period of time and it's clear that we're not speaking the same language in terms of what they came back to us
with.”
Bettman went on to add during a press conference after the meeting, which lasted a little over an hour, that he was ‘disappointed’ in how everything came together and fell apart almost instantly over these past few days. Having that said, seeing a full 82
games being played next regular season, whenever it kicks off, looks more impossible now than ever.
None of the stakeholders have hinted at when a next meeting could be between the league and labour union, which has fans guessing whether it will be soon or not. There seems to be another deadlock between the two sides and only time will tell now what they
have planned for the future in order to save the regular season from utter disaster.
