Leah Neale claims Girls 800m freestyle gold: Day six – Australian Age Championships
Leah Neale of CYMS ST Edmund’s claimed gold medal of the Girls 800m freestyle in the age category of 16 Year Olds on day six of the 2012 Australian Age Championships at the Sleeman Sports Complex, Brisbane on Saturday, April 14.
The 16-year-old Neale stayed considerably ahead of her challengers from the start of the race. With her epic performance, she stayed in a lead of nearly two body lengths over her immediate swimmer and tapped the wall for gold medal by posting a time of 8
minutes and 39.83 seconds.
Neale was trailed by Tabitha Baumann of New Zealand, who remained almost four seconds slower from her former finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 8 minutes and 43.25 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Brianna Throssell of City of Perth, who stayed nearly three seconds slower from overpowering her former finisher and reached the finishing end for bronze medal by touching the wall with the timing of 8 minutes and 46.16
seconds.
The 16-year-old Throssell stayed 4.12 seconds faster from Emily Kayser of All Saints, who clocked an effort of 8 minutes and 50.28 seconds for fourth position.
After that, Meg Bailey dominated the title of Girls 15-year-old 200m Individual Medley (IM) as she tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 19.47 seconds.
Bailey was trailed by Eliza Ham of Nunawading, who stayed 0.94 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and ended her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 20.41 seconds for silver medal.
Ham was chased by Suwannachet of Thailand, who occupied third position of the discipline by touching the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 20.83 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Elise Pidutti of Hunter, who stayed almost two seconds slower from upsetting the third position holder and completed her race with an effort of 2 minutes and 22.63 seconds for fourth position.
In addition, the championship ended after the completion of all planned events while podium finishers were awarded accolades for their notable efforts in their respective events at medal ceremony of the championship.
