Leah Neale earns Girls 400m freestyle gold: Day two – Australian Age Championships, Brisbane
Leah Neale earned gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle in her age group on second day of the 2012 Australian Age Championships on Tuesday, April 10 at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre.
The 16-year-old Neale, who qualified into the finals as top contender for gold medal, remained dominant over her competitors in the final lap.
With her alluring efforts and perfect stroke, she enjoyed an advantage of more than two body lengths over her following swimmer and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal by touching the wall in a time of 4 minutes and 10.99 seconds.
Her gold winning effort remained nearly five seconds ahead of Amelia Gould of SOPAC, who settled on the finishing end for silver medal by hitting the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 15.15 seconds.
The third spot of the discipline was secured by Tabitha Baumann of New Zealand, who stayed 0.06 seconds behind and emerged on the finishing end for third position by hitting the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 15.21 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth spot of the race was secured by Ebony Blackstone of Cotton Tree, who remained almost three seconds behind and emerged on the finishing end by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 18.93 seconds.
Next was the equivalent event in Boys 16-year-olds category, where Jordan Harrison of Miami overpowered his opponents with his tremendous efforts.
Harrison remained prominently ahead of his challengers and reached the finishing end for gold medal by posting a time of 3 minutes and 56.44 seconds. He was followed by Sean Maloney of Woden, who occupied second best position of the discipline by ending
his swim in a time of 3 minutes and 57.56 seconds.
Third spot of the race was obtained by Alexander Graham of ST Kevins, who snared bronze medal of the discipline by hitting the wall with an effort of 3 minutes and 59.42 seconds. Similarly, Jacob Hansford claimed fourth position as he clocked 4 minutes and
02.72 seconds.
Furthermore, the championship will end on April 14 after the conclusion of all swimming events.
