Leah Neale pockets Girls 400m freestyle gold – 2013 GHSF Australian Championships
Leah Neale of Cent Brisbane pocketed gold medal of the Girls 400m freestyle on first day of the 2013 GHSF Australian Age Swimming Championships in SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre, Adelaide on Monday, April 8.
The 17-year-old Neale faced no competition from her competitor in the race as she comfortably reached the finishing wall for gold medal.
With her wonderful start, she gained a prominent lead over her challengers and won the title by touching the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 09.72 seconds.
The champion was followed by Laura Crockart of Ryde-Carlile, who was 2.03 seconds behind and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal by clocking an effort of 4 minutes and 11.75 seconds.
Crockart was traced by Amelia Gould of SOPAC, who was nearly three seconds slower and hit the wall for third position by clocking an effort of 4 minutes and 14.01 seconds.
The third best finisher was traced by Mikka Sheridan of Nudgee, who stayed 4.74 seconds slower and clocked an effort of 4 minutes and 18.75 seconds for fourth place.
The 18-year-old Sheridan was followed by Hayley Anschau of Blacktown City, who was 0.44 seconds apart and made her way towards the finishing end for fifth place by producing an effort of 4 minutes and 19.19 seconds.
Sixth spot of the race was obtained by Aiden Lister of Academy, who was more than a full body length behind and tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 20.44 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by Alici Caldwell of Carlile, who was 1.13 seconds away from upsetting her preceding swimmer and made her way towards the finishing end by touching the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 21.57 seconds.
Eighth position of the event was secured by her teammate, Georgia Miller, who was only 0.02 seconds away from improving her position but finished her race in last place with the timing of 4 minutes and 21.59 seconds.
Furthermore, Neale was contented with her title-claiming effort in the 400m event and raked medal at the prize ceremony of the tournament.
