Leah Stevens acquires Women’s 400m freestyle gold: Day one – 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational
Leah Stevens of Lakeside Swim Team acquired gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle on first day of the 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational in Nebraska on Friday, June 8.
The 15-year-old Stevens of Lakeside Swim Team dictated terms to her opponents from the start of the race and made her way to the top of podium for the title of the event.
With her alluring efforts, she faced no difficulty in occupying the title of the event as she tapped the finishing end with the timing of 4 minutes and 15.79 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Kathryn Campbell of Swim Pasadena-CA, who stayed three body lengths apart and secured silver medal of the discipline by producing a time of 4 minutes and 18.81 seconds.
Third spot of the event was secured by Samantha Shellem of La Mirada Armada, who remained just one and a half body length behind and posted a time of 4 minutes and 20.22 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Bailey Pons of Club Huskers-MW, who stayed just 0.07 seconds slower and reached the finishing blockade as fourth best finisher with the timing of 4 minutes and 20.29 seconds.
The 20-year-old Pons was chased by Danielle Beckwith of University of Wisconsin, who remained only 0.10 seconds apart and hit the finishing wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 20.39 seconds for fifth position.
Similarly, sixth position of the discipline was secured by Monika Stitski of Wisconsin Aquatics, who stayed only 0.07 seconds apart and ended her sprint in a time of 4 minutes and 20.46 seconds.
Seventh finest spot of the race was secured by Isabella Rongione of The Fish-PV, who stayed nearly three seconds apart and posted 4 minutes and 23.65 seconds.
Rongione was chased by Rebecca Stoughton of Club Hawkeye-IA, who ended her swim in eighth best place by posting a time of 4 minutes and 25.60 seconds.
The session came to an end after the completion of all planned events in Men and Women’s corner while the competition will continue for two more days and will conclude on June 10.
