Leah Stevens acquires Women’s 500 yard freestyle gold – Speedo Winter Junior Nationals
Leah Stevens of Lakeside Swim Team acquired gold medal of the Women’s 500 yard freestyle on opening day of the 2012 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships at University of Tennessee, Knoxville on Thursday, December 6.
Stevens, who dominated the qualification round of the race, went on a rampage in the final round and proved her eligibility for the title.
The 16-year-old Stevens tried hard to improve her timing in the playoff but remained marginally slower from her qualification time. Despite of her comparatively sluggish effort in the playoff, Stevens occupied the crown of the event by posting a time of
4 minutes and 43.25 seconds.
The champion was chased by Cecilia Williams of Area Tallahassee, who was 0.36 seconds slower from her and reached the finishing blockade for silver medal by posting a time of 4 minutes and 43.61 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Zoe Thatcher of Mason Manta Rays, who was one body length apart and completed the podium by securing bronze medal with a timing of 4 minutes and 44.72 seconds.
Fourth position of the race was obtained by Sydney Lofquist of Dayton Raiders-O, who stayed two body lengths behind and settled on the wall by producing a time of 4 minutes and 46.51 seconds.
Subsequently, fifth position of the event was obtained by Eryn Eddy of Loveland Swim Club, who was 0.09 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and clocked a time of 4 minutes and 46.60 seconds.
Eddy was traced by Ashlee Korsberg of Crimson Aquatics, who stayed 2.11 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and concluded her race in sixth place by posting a time of 4 minutes and 48.71 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was secured by Hannah Moore of Raleigh Swimming, who was 0.06 seconds apart and clocked a time of 4 minutes and 48.77 seconds.
Moore remained 0.10 seconds slower from Sandra Soe of Santa Clara Swim, who finished her race in eighth place by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 48.87 seconds.
Furthermore, Stevens was overjoyed with her top finish in the race and collected medal after the event.
