Leak in corner of kitchen ceiling?

we were told by a contractor that it was the badly damaged roof on our porch that was causing this wet patch so we paid 2k to get the porch re done. the wet patch is still there. i thought it was from the bath because its old and ridged and collects water round the edges but having looked under the bath it seems dry. could it be the pvc window above? could this cause a leak?

  1. start by getting a section of the ceiling cut out then you can get a better idea

easy to do and relatively easy to repair

  2. It could be a window.  It could be clogged gutters backing up.

  3. You need to look under the bath, or where ever you think the water is entering when it is raining hard. Or you can play a hose pipe on the outside while someone watches from inside. Patience and application will provide the answer. It is possible that the water is entering via the window, a close look at the sealant around the edges is needed.

  4. If it is a leak.. the damp will be continuous.. break out a hole where the ceiling is damaged ( as this will have to be renewed at some point anyway) then investigate the underfloor space from below.

check to see if there are any pipes & if they are leaking.

if only happening now & then it could still be getting in from outside, in this case check to see if it is worse just after heavy rain, feel the walls etc to see if you can find the point of entry (check the flashing is done properly on the new roof & if necesary apply mastic sealant to any open joints etc.

There is also another possibility.. do you have a shower over the bath? often this can be a problem either by people not using a proper shower screen or curtain or by the water running down the walls & finding its way behind the bath if it is not sealed properly.. if so scrape off the old silicone sealant & use new to re-seal around the edges of the bath.

after curing the leak you will have to make good the kitchen ceiling & redecorate..

Are you Insured? you may be able to make a claim.

If you live near London let me know & I could do it for you

  5. you ,may have a burst water pipe under the floorboards and not

know it,  that may be the problem ,

have you ,got  home insurance , if so call the insurance  company

out , and they will sort it out for you,

do not leave it any longer , water damage is the worst thing that

    can happen to anybody.

it could come from any pipe in the house, so be careful.

good luck with it. hope you get it sorted out.

  6. Without being able to see the house any answer must be speculative. But have you noticed if the wet patch is only there on rainy days? If it is there all the time, I would have discounted the porch since that would only have come into play when rain collected on it roof and was directed to your kitchen ceiling. If it is wet all the time, I suspect either an internal source from a leaking pipe (mains or drain) or bath.
