I have an 89 dodge 2000 gtx (mitsubishi galant rebadged) 5 spd manual, 2.0L SOHC, I noticed a small oil leak (barely a drop) on the bottom side of the engine near where the belts are. Do I have a blown engine seal or something? (If you ask me a question, watch for an edit)

  1. What frank said could be right but if it was just one drop i dont think it would be a seal. sure it was oil, there a long list of things that it could be.

  2. could be the main oil seal or the valve cover gasket or the pan gasket.

    alot of times gaskets will shrink with age.

    how many miles?

    try using an extended millage oil which has additives that will cause the gaskets to expand.  or use an engine oil seal leak additive.

  3. You must first identify the fluid, oil black thick, smells of petrol. coolant/water, clear or green, thin , may smell sweet.

    power steering fluid. red or clear brownish color, will be very slick and would usually be on hoses and lines also.

    oil = front seal

    water = water pump

    power steering =seal, line ,or spillage.
