Leaking pipe upstairs, water dripping down light bulb downstairs?

right then, all of a sudden water started streaming from our downstairs lightbulb, so we ripped up the carpet upstairs and found that a floor-board has been rubbing against a metal water pipe, (grooves in the wood suggest it's been happening for years! - 100 year old house -) and an old s***w FINALLY pierced through the pipe.

anyway we turned off all the water ( was actually the heating pipe so we drained the tank radiators)

- water problem solved

but what do we do about the lights and electrics? water electricity= BAD! any help on this would be so appreciated!

and how much do you think a plumber would charge to fix a foot of copper pipe? or would he have to replace the lot?

thanx in advance for your answers!

  1. Just from personal experience, once the water leak is stopped and the water dries, there's not threat of problem with the lightbulb. I had a leak and water dripped down my ceiling fan (electricity again). I didn't run the fan for a couple of days until I was sure it was dried out. I had the leak fixed, ta-da, everything was ok.

Plumber to fix a pipe. Depends on where you live. Outside of Atlanta, it's $75 an hour. ouch!

  2. to replace a copper pipe that would be a lot of mullah. Sorry I'm not that good with plumbing.

    So sorry for you
