Question:

Leaking problem affecting AC?

We had a leak in our upstairs bathroom. It's stopped leaking now, but my mom says that we can't use our air conditioner because it'll make it worse. It's 93 degrees in our house right now, and it's terrible. :/

Is it true that our AC will affect the leaking?

  1. Yes, the condensate drain is probably connected to that bathroom drain. to make sure that it is hooked up look under the sink and see if there is a piece of tubing coming out off the wall tapping into the drain pipe before the trap. have a hvac tech look at the system

  2. if the leak is coming from the attic it is possibly a stopped up ac drain if it is leave the ac off until it is fixed. get some one to go up in the attic and check it.

  3. Central air conditioning is not connected to plumbing.

  4. if your ac is on your roof, the overflow pan that collects condensation may be overflowing and causing the leak.  if this is the case, then running your ac will result in condensation and thus a leak.  if ac is at ground level, then running uour ac should not be a problem.

  5. your mom is not correct *. running the a/c will remove moisture from the air, helping to dry out the house. just tell her; the defroster in the car works by running the a/c to remove the moisture that is causing the windshield to fog up.

(*)  only if the leak is being caused by the air conditioner, like a clogged drain line, or such, would this information be wrong, and you mom correct.
