Leander Paes talks about Olympics – Tennis News
India’s number one doubles player, Leander Paes, has calmed down on the issue of London Olympics and has started working out strategies with his surprise doubles partner, Vishnu Vardhan, at Wimbledon, London.
The whole dilemma looks to be over for the All Indian Tennis Association as Paes look set to absorb the tough decision that was a bit harsh on him, considering that he is the best doubles player alive in the entire sub-continent.
However, putting everything aside, he looks to be in terrific touch having snapped a great round of play in Wimbledon Championships, earlier this month.
He commented on his performance at Wimbledon stating, “I've had a great time at Wimbledon. Radek (Stepanek) and myself lost narrowly in the third round of the men’s doubles to Ivan (Dodig) and Marcelo (Melo) after a tough five-setter
(6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 7-6, 6-8) in a match that was played over two days and interrupted 11 times due to bad weather."
The 39-year-old Indian superstar teamed up with the Russian beauty queen, Elena Vesnina, in the mixed doubles category and reached the final of the year’s third Grand Slam Championship at All England Lawn Tennis Club. They were
outplayed by the American duo of Mike Bryan and Lisa Raymond but reaching that stage was itself an achievement for the Indian veteran who is looking to repeat a similar kind of performance (if not better) at the upcoming Olympics in London.
Talking bout his preparations of Olympics, he added, “Vishnu was by my side during Wimbledon and is also with me in the US now. I have got him to train with my coach Rick Leach and together they’re doing some fitness stuff and
also practising some doubles drills, serve-and-volley, etc.”
Paes further added, “I'm keen to carry on the good work from Wimbledon into the Olympics now.” It will be interesting to see the new duo performing at the Olympics competition that takes place every four years. Most probably this
will be the last edition of the Olympics for Paes who is aging quite fast and will be 43 years of age in the next Olympics tournament. So, Vardhan needs to perform well.
