  1. In Superman IV it was Superman who first straightened it....then made it lean again.


  2. It was not built on a solid foundation.  It started settling as they finished building it.  It will eventually fall over.

  3. It is leaning because of the shallow foundations (only 3 meters deep) and the sandy sediment. It began to lean before the third storey was finished in 1274.... Long ago and still standing

  4. i was recently in Italy and i overheard that they are trying to straighten it a bit so that it will not fall....they are removing some of the the ground beneath the upper side so that angle will not be so dramatic and dangerous

  5. All I know is that the tower started leaning when it was being built.

  6. The city is built on gravel and mud.  There are many buildings along the Arno River that lean.
