  1. Apparently as leap year cannot end with 00  (e.g. year 2000) to make up the difference.

  2. Yer there is!

It takes 365 days and a quarter for the earth to orbit the sun, (A year). But so we dont have too celebrate new year at 6 in the morning, every four years they add an extra day. Four quaters of a day.

  3. Because it takes the world 365.24 days to rotate around the sun!

So every 4 years we catch up with the 0.24s

  4. actually, it aint every 4 years, at the start of every centery theres no leap year for the first 8 years.

the leap year occurs because a year is 365 1/4 days, so every 4 years makes up another day. but these calculations were proved to be slightly off, thats how theres no leap year for 8 years at the start of each centery, this corrects the mis-calculations.

  5. the reason is

Back in 1200 AD when the calender said it was september it was still spring time, so the people of the day worked out they needed to add 1/4 of a day each year, That cant be done , so 0ne day in 4 years,

In Salisbury we have a grave stone that reads

Born sept 1200 die june the same year

because thats the year they moved the calender back and added the leap year
