Leappad Learning systems?

My son got a Leappad first book and cartridge for xmas, however I have made a mistake and ordered the normal leappad system instead of the "first" system. Are they compatible?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the two are not compatible.

No. My First LeapPad books will not work on the LeapPad, LeapPad Pro™ or Quantum Pad™ players. Nor will LeapPad books work on a My First LeapPad player. The books’ sizes and shapes are different."
