Learn Arabic in a community college in NY?

Does anyone know of a community college in New York that offers courses in the study of the Arabic language? I live in Queens, and I need to be enrolled in a program in order to qualify for a scholarship to study abroad.

I'm trying to Google, but I think I need help.

Thanks.

  1. It is highly unlikely that you will be able to find arabic taught in a community college. You would be better off looking at universities and 4 year colleges. I'm in Massachusetts and know that the community colleges here are pretty limited in their foreign language offerings. I graduated from a major university that had lots of different foreign languages offerings including Arabic.

  2. I'm glad you found it at Nassau. They also offer it at:

    - Orange County CC

    - Hudson Valley CC

    - Kingsborough CC

    - Jamestown CC

    - Rockland CC

I'm not sure how close any of those are to you. I think Orange and HVCC are quite far - maybe 1.5 hours drive. Rockland isn't so far - maybe 45 minutes drive, but you'd need a car. Kingsboro is just over in Brooklyn, though, and I don't know if that'd be closer than Nassau for you.

If you don't mind a private college, NYU and Columbia are both offering Arabic this summer, via their continuing ed programs. But a cc would be far less expensive.
