Question:

Learn a Buckin Bronco?

Hi I was curious on how I can learn how to ride a bronco. I enjoy attending rodeo events and I was curious on what it is like being a rider. I understand its not a piece of cake and its very demanding and injuries are guaranteed.

The huge downfall is: I was never taught how to ride a horse. I don't know of anyone who has a horse either. I would expect I would need to learn how to ride a horse before i get on the back of the bronco.

I live in Michigan and where I live its all city. No country open land. What would you reccemend me do? I am currently a full time college student so as for expenses I don't have a heck of a lot.

  1. i used to ride saddle bronk but i also live in the heartland of rodeo and was raised with horses..as far as bronk riding you will need to choose whether you want to ride bareback or saddle bronk..both break bones but i depends on whether you want a leg cast or a neck brace lol...we will start with bareback..bareback requires balance while being on your back and it can be brutal to your neck and whiplash is always an option.next is saddle bronk..to put in in plain terms it is like sawing a log with a handsaw while trying to balance on a big moving ball.it requires balance and timing but the horse will sometimes change the beat of the song mid jump so you have to be on your toes..both can be taught but the rigging can be cost prohibitive.but like anything that can be overcome..i am not trying to scare you just giving you a heads up.look around for local rodeos and ask some of the roughstock riders if there are any local "buck offs" they may be a little standoffish at first but will warm up when they get to know you..watch .ask questions and you will be fine

  2. i am 16 i own LOTS of horses and the best way to learn is to get ojn fall off and keep trying i have broke only 2 bones cuz of horses( only cuz they got spooked)  good luck

  3. there should be indoor riding arenas in your area, call one of them and they should be able to get you the info you need
